If Andrew Wiggins had graduated high school prior to 2006 instead of 2013, he'd already be on an NBA roster. In fact, Wiggins could very well have gone first overall to Cleveland in this year's draft.
Instead, Wiggins will play college ball at Kansas next season under the tutelage of head coach Bill Self. The same Self who won the 2009 Associated Press and 2012 Big 12 Coach of the Year.
He was the No. 1 overall ranked recruit in this year's class who can score from inside the paint and out. There's no question he'll succeed on a potential top 25-ranked team in Kansas.
With the Jayhawks, Wiggins will take on the likes of Duke and Florida this season. Both games give the top recruit two premier games to impress NBA coaches.
Wiggins was the 2013 Gatorade National Player of the Year and a McDonald's All-American. He has also won two bronze medals with Team Canada in the Under-17 and Under-18 FIBA Championships.
Kansas can expect huge things from its top recruit this year while NBA teams will be scouting and counting down to next year's draft.
His college career has not yet begun but it's already safe to assume Wiggins will be a difference-maker for one lucky NBA franchise when he comes out of college.
"From a raw, athletic-ability standpoint, he can do some things that I?ve never had a player be able to do physically," Self told ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf.
A year playing at a top college basketball school will only enrich the Canadian's already explosive talent. Self will also teach Wiggins how to compete with top-level college talent.
He is sure to be one of, if not the first name taken in next year's NBA draft. Regardless of which team grabs Wiggins, he will change the direction of that franchise.
The small forward was flat out dominant throughout high school from both a shooting and defensive standpoint. His 6'8" height has allowed him to be a dominant blocker and possesses ferocious dunking ability. Judging by the fact Wiggins won't be shrinking anytime soon, that fact shouldn't change on the NBA stage.
During the upcoming college basketball season, Wiggins will mature from raw talent to a dominant playmaker on the court. At the NBA level, the transition will be tougher but that will not halt him.
Wiggins has a skill set and basketball IQ that only comes around every so often. After he shines for Kansas, the NBA will have its next big star.
